Dec 1, 2001 - Volvo's Adventure Concept Car has become a reality in the form of the Volvo XC90, a new addition to the Volvo range.

The XC90 features a distinctive design, powerful turbo engines, and innovative interior, which cleverly provides the flexibility of up to seven forward facing seats.

It incorporates the latest dynamic modern Volvo trademark design features of gently rounded, elegant lines, a distinctive V-shaped hood, pronounced shoulders, and a powerful stance.

“We wanted the car to look masculine and confident, but not macho,” explains Volvo’s Chief Designer, Peter Horbury.

The new generation SUV aims to deliver car-like driving characteristics. Developed on Volvo’s large car platform, the all-wheel drive XC90 combines off-road capability with excellent road-going performance thanks to a choice of powerful turbo engines - either the 272bhp T6, six-cylinder petrol or Volvo’s new state-of-the-art 163 bhp D5 diesel.

The XC90 will reinforce Volvo’s leading position on safety and showcases a range of technologically advanced solutions in the important areas of roll-over protection and compatibility with smaller cars in the event of an accident.

The Volvo XC90 makes its international debut on January 7 at the 2002 Detroit Motor Show.
