Feb 4, 2002 - Faithful to a newly established tradition, Finnish specialty carmaker Valmet Automotive is set to unveil a very realistic design study of a new Coupé Convertible based on Volvos C70 coupe. This is the third and newest show car with retractable hardtop created by Valmet Automotive.
Although the idea is no longer new, this type of design is difficult to implement on a full size four-seater luxury car. Valmet Automotive is working very intensively on the application of the new technique and has aimed at creating a full-size convertible, which combines the style and conveniences of an elegant coupe when the roof is up.
According to its maker the innovative folding method roof of the Valmet C70 CC offers the rear seat passengers excellent space utilisation, with full 4-seater capability and spacious luggage compartment whether the roof is up or down. Furthermore, the new roof concept can be applied to cars with short rear overhang, such as hatchbacks and compact cars.
Developed and manufactured in the Technical Centre of Valmet Automotive in Uusikaupunki, this concept is a unique car representing the specialty vehicle know-how of the Finnish specialists. Although there are no official plans to take the concept car into production, its engineering and technical solutions have been designed with series production in mind. The concept car embodies technical innovations and space solutions, which can be utilised in future specialty vehicle projects.
