The Harley-Davidson Trunk is an autonomous bike for environmentally conscious riders; a self-sufficient target market that prefers to use recyclable and organic materials. The bike's chassis, made out of plastic, is inspired by the sequoia, a giant of the Californian forests and venerated by the American Indians. Keywords respected in this concept include mother nature and roots.
Maserati 'Altai' Concept
Rafaël Barbier-Chocron
The Altai snowmobile concept is designed to regalvanize Maserati, targeting the elite, young and rich Russian market. For use beyond Moscow, this extreme caterpillar-tracked sports vehicle aims to take the Italian marque into a fresh, unorthodox winter-sports territory, blending '70s retro fashion with modern technology in a fun yet provocative package.
Nokia ‘T.E.V'
Jean-Michel Senez
Jean Baudrillard, a French sociologist and philosopher, denounces the post-World War II ‘American Way of Life'. Indeed, he has become the icon of an anti-consumption movement, his motto being ‘do more with less'. In the same ilk, this conceptual three-wheeled vehicle features electric motors in its front wheels and a lithium-polymer battery in the rear wheel hub. The body is thermo-molded out of bio-plastic for strength and lightness, and when needed the vehicle can be electronically ordered via mobile phone and operated via a joystick.
Ford ‘D.I.Y'
Guillaume Juif
In the age of the ‘American Way of Life', the consumer society has suffered an identity crisis. The economic and energy crisis has forced the American mentality to change, leading many consumers to view the car in an entirely different light. The D.I.Y (Daring Independent Yankees) concept is an audacious, contemporary take on two US icons: the Ford Model A, and the craze that it sparked – the hot-rod. Ecological impact is the primary concern here, with power coming from an electric ‘block' engine that evokes the classic American V8, both in appearance and performance. Another aspect is customization; owners can configure the bodywork and interior to their exact specifications online. To further enhance the ‘club' camaraderie, such parts are also interchangeable with other owners either via their own network or eBay.
Segway ‘Samca'
Damien Fressard
Abu Dhabi's new urban landscape, Masdar City (designed by Foster and Partners), is a global laboratory of renewable energy and cutting-edge technology that will provide emissions-free transportation for its citizens and workers. A new vehicle that fuses with its surroundings, the Segway Samca is a monopod electric vehicle that is powered by innovative gyroscopic motors with small inner wheels for stability. The glass canopy offers clear visibility while providing sufficient cooling at the top lace opening.
'T - Rakeo' concept
Aristide Doucet
The T-Rakeo's aim is to protect the earth's diminishing forests while offering the possibility to work in the most fragile forest area in the world: the Amazon. Its objective is to follow a more precise route in cutting and replanting the trees of South America, preparing the terrain for a sustainable future. It has an ‘arm' to grab and cut tree trunks then place them into an auxiliary container, and also has the capacity to restore the terrain by replanting small trees which are stocked in solar-powered container in the rear.
Peugeot ‘Symbiotic'
Antoine Caraux
With the environment now a central issue for political leaders, the media and the world's population, and citizens losing millions of hours in traffic congestion each year, Caraux proposes a seamless transportation solution that uses existing infrastructure. The Symbiotic adds an innovative way of addressing a weak spot in the transport chain, linking the commuter's home to the nearest train station with zero-emissions, two-wheeled vehicles that can be rented for a small amount. By doing so it will encourage commuters to use the train network to commute to work instead of their private cars.
