CAD Manager

In this CAD Manager role, you will:

  • Own CAD design process, drive surface quality standards across the team, supervise and aid data creation and data transfer from design to engineering and approve CAD data ready for release; manage team deliverables, projects, procurement of both software and hardware, plus the day-to day-output of the CAD function. 
  • Work daily with industrial designers to plan and create design intent digital models while collaborating closely with the wider teams to understand requirements.
  • Create/manage high quality 3D surfaces for various design concepts, visualizations, prototypes, design and engineering evaluations; develop, manage, and inspect production quality class-A surfaces out of a variety of design/ engineering data for product development, tooling and manufacturing. Ensure a seamless and effective project schedule and communication with the design and engineering team
  • Define all production design relevant details in parts and assemblies based on design directions and execution plan
  • Work with internal/external partners (domestic and international) to develop parts for prototypes or production parts

At a minimum, we’d like you to have:

  • Degree in Industrial Design, transportation design or similar field
  • Minimum 10 years of design experience covering 3d modeling, product development and relevant engineering and manufacturing technical knowledge
  • Strong visual/verbal communication and people managing skills.
  • Excellent 3D design, 2D drawing and CAD skills. Excellent knowledge in digital/ physical modeling/ fabrication
  • Strong technical background and understanding of the design process; Proven history of successful design and product development from concept to production
  • Proficiency in Alias and Catia, an understanding of solid modeling and familiarity with rendering, visualization and animations

It’s preferred if you have:

  • Extensive knowledge in engineering and manufacturing complex Class A parts and assemblies, aided by a deep understanding of the applicable tooling methods
  • Experience in physical modeling/ fabrication
  • Fluent in additional CAD packages such as Solidworks, Pro-e, and NX.
  • Strong rendering, visualization and/or animation skills using SW such as VRED, Maya, and Keyshot

Design Engineer

In this Design Studio role, you’ll:

  • Work closely with design and engineering departments within Waymo, to develop innovative products, vehicles, and hardware, which integrate engineering excellence into creative designs. Identify and propose solutions to technically challenging areas on new product development by bringing Design and Engineering together
  • Interface between design and engineering teams to help manage and resolve conflicts between design requirements and technical feasibility, ensure the design themes are updated with the latest technical input from engineering and manufacturing. Represent design plural and interests when communicating with engineering teams and suppliers.
  • Lead theme packaging development and theme feasibility from design concepts to final class-A surfaces; guide design and CAD team to provide the best solution possible for Waymo’s products.
  • Manage information in the Enovia PLM, Catia V6 environment. Responsible for data management including: design concepts, simulation analysis, prototyping builds and production. Support the development and construction of 3D models with respect to dimensional and technical constraints and model build
  • Support design activities and ensure correct technical and geometrical status to physical models, mock-ups and ergonomic bucks. Actively participate in all studio activities related to the project
  • Stay up to date on the latest engineering trends, system, tools and tooling development processes; Introduce new technical solutions, provide technical specifications for designers

We’d like you to have:

  • Degree in Engineering, minimum 10 years of experience of product, transportation design or similar field
  • Strong technical background and understanding of the design and engineering process; proven history of successful design and product development from concept to production
  • Extensive industry experience and knowledge through all phases of product development cycle; manufacturing processes, engineering and developing complex Class A parts and assemblies, material science and structure, deep understanding of different tooling methods
  • Have a good balance of design and engineering; creative thinking, problem solving skills, eyes for strong aesthetics and perceived quality, craftsmanship sensibilities, and understand the technical solutions and limitations. 
  • A wide knowledge and high level of comfort in CAD and PLM packages. Proficient in Catia, Excellent 2D drawing and 3D CAD skills.
  • Excellent team working capabilities and communication/ presentation skills

It’s preferred if you have:

  • Fluent in more than one CAD package such as Catia, Solidworks, Pro-e, and NX.
  • Previous design engineer/ studio engineering experience in OEM design studio or complete vehicle packaging experience
  • Additional industry activities such as consumer products, or architecture

Digital Designer/CAD Sculptor

In this CAD Designer/Digital Sculptor role, you’ll:

  • Work daily with industrial designers to create design intent digital models while collaborating with engineering teams to understand requirements

Design Producer

In this Design Studio role, you’ll:

  • Work closely with industrial design, CAD, CMF, product graphics design, and project management in all stages of the design process. Manage interaction between designers and other functions such as product management, engineering, supplier development
  • Manage design workflow and be the point person for all ongoing projects while managing new project intake for the team. Establish new workflows and implement them in ways that remove friction and allow scalability, efficiency and creativity across the product development lifecycle. Improve and maintain processes that can ensure team members have what they need to understand and execute on all objectives
  • Responsible for building and managing project schedules based on the known dates of the program and risk factors, obtaining necessary approval and meeting syncs with teams. Identify potential obstacles and risks that stand in the way of success. Maintain all project schedules while sending out regular communications regarding project status
  • Coordinate and lead weekly design meetings to align teams on status of ongoing programs and next steps. Take clear notes and distribute to attendees highlighting key decisions and action items
  • Collaborate closely with project leads on project strategy and roadmaps, make sure that the processes related to design activities run smoothly. Prepare for design reviews with design leads and partners by driving agendas, goals, FAQs and presentation strategy
  • Manage and organize design assets: both physical and digital

We’d like you to have:

  • BS/BA or equivalent, and a MINIMUM of 5+ years in a Project Management or Design Producer role.
  • Proven track record of setting up and driving engineering and/or design projects within an design or other organization
  • Strong communication, collaboration, planning, prioritization, time management and organizational skills.
  • Passion for improving processes, plans, and all things that are simply broken or don’t exist
  • Innate ability to get things done, figuring things out and driving several tasks to closure. 
  • Proven ability to collaborate with design, engineering, product, marketing, regulatory compliance teams and suppliers to develop new solutions. Have a positive, collaborative attitude amid ambiguous situations.

It’s preferred if you have:

  • Formal project management training (PMP or other) and experience working with project management tools is a plus
  • Experience working in product design and/ or vehicle design OEMs
