Polestar Design contest winners announced
An airship, an inclusive, autonomous pod, and an electric yacht were among the winning designs for Polestar’s inaugural design contest launched in June 2020
For its inaugural design competition, Polestar challenged professional and student designers to present a new Polestar that tackled future mobility while adhering to the theme of ‘purity’. The brief was left intentionally wide with entrants not required to design a car.
Konrad Cholewka from Poland claimed the professional category prize with an autonomous pod comprising two geometric shapes: a cylinder intersecting with a rectangular box. The pod, arranged like a living room with a rotating front bench seat, is accessed through a universally accessible single door.

The student category winner was Siddhesh Bhogale from India who envisioned the ‘Polestar 40’ – an electric airship that harnesses drone technology such as vertical take-off and landing capabilities to travel to remote locations with little transport infrastructure.
Brazil’s Arthur Martins received an honourable mention for his ‘Spänning’ electric yacht, which the judges said offered a ’true alternative to conventional yachts’. The yacht, which would glide silently through the water, featured sensors and autonomous navigation technology.
Student winner - Siddhesh Bhogale, Polestar 40
There were hundreds of entries from across the world with everything from arctic exploration vehicles to hypercars. Judges Juan Pablo Bernal and Maximilian Missoni, Polestar’s head of design shortlisted 13 finalists and coached them remotely to refine their work. Each candidate submitted fully-realised digital designs for the final judging. The three winners’ work will be realised as 1:5 scale models, which will tour the Polestar Spaces in China, Europe and North America.
Honourable mention - Arthur Martins, Spänning
“It was both inspirational and humbling to interact with so much emerging and experienced talent. The designs we saw evolve from creative sketches to 3D models show that the design world is a melting pot of exceptional individuals. We look forward to seeing these designers moving on to great things during their promising careers,” says Maximilian Missoni.
