A new era for car design, the ideal opportunity for car designers to explore design beyond the automotive industry

Car design is entering a fascinating new era with more opportunities and challenges opening up than in any period in recent history. While digital design tools continue to unlock more efficient and collaborative ways of working, the advent of AI-driven design brings with it a host of questions about the future role of the designer. Sustainability continues to loom large as the industry wrestles with ideas such as how best to achieve circularity in design, how scalable alternative materials can be and whether they are quite as green as was first thought. Electrification marches on and, if recent work is any yardstick, designers are just beginning to experiment with new forms, both inside and outside the car.

To explore all this, Car Design News is partnering with Konzepthaus to bring you a day of thought-leading design discussions and innovative skills workshops at the IAA MOBILITY. Taking place 4 September in the main exhibition hall, the event will feature a host of industry experts sharing their thoughts on exterior and interior design; UX, AI, material innovation and much more. We will also bring you two workshops running throughout the day alongside the main stage, which will showcase cutting-edge digital design tools and software and material innovation and trends in CMF, respectively.
