Interior design update
Porsche interior refresh revealed on the Cayenne Electric
The Cayenne Electric has received a refresh to its interior, with the brand stating this is a glimpse into the future of Porche’s interior design language.
The Flow Display leads the refresh – a curved 14.5-inch OLED display which is located in the centre console of the Cayenne Electric, slightly reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Fold phone. And, alongside an optional 14.9-inch passenger display and 8.7-inch head-up display, these screens form the largest continuous digital surface in any Porsche.
Essential driving information via augmented reality is displayed through digital instrument cluster, with the passenger display specifically offering entertainment, app control and video streaming.
Within this technology, an AI-powered voice assistant is available, which can control the climate, seat heating, ambient lighting and mood modes.
Director of driver experience at Style Porsche Ivo van Hulten explained: “The aim of redesigning the screens’ digital content was to create an even more immersive and intense connection between driver and sports car.”
As for comfort, electrically adjustable rear seats are integrated in the design and to set the ambiance there’s mood mode, which changes the lighting, climate, sound and seat functions. Looking upwards, the panoramic sliding roof is the largest glass sunroof fitted in a Porsche and can be set to varying opacities thanks to the electrically controlled liquid crystal film.
Porsche has also decided to expand upon interior seat heating with the introduction of surface heating that warms large contact areas like armrests and sections of the door panels.
13 interior colour combinations, five accent packages and four interior packages are available, Porsche does also offer up a leather-free material option in Race-Tex with Pepita print textile.
Director of interior design at Style Porsche Markus Auerbach summarised: “Our goal was to combine quintessential Cayenne characteristics and the newly developed display surfaces with the features of the new ‘Porsche digital interaction’ into a harmonious overall package. One that’s innovative, forward-thinking and meticulously thought through down to the finest detail.”
Lucid, a Silicone Valley start up, is another car maker that has experimented with curved OLED screens as seen in the Gravity SUV.
