Preview: Geneva motor show 2016 [updated]

Run-down of all the major production and concept cars expected at this year’s event

Geneva motor show (1–13 March) marks the start of the European show calendar, and following Detroit, CES and Delhi, often brings forth a wider variety of debuts. We’re expecting a broad selection of both concepts and production vehicles: here’s a rundown of the new cars we know about so far.

Alpine
Official relaunch of Renault’s sports car brand, expected to stay close to last year’s Celebration concept (above)

Aston Martin DB11
All-new DB9 replacement will be all-new under its skin. Design elements from from the DBX crossover (floating cant rails) and 007’s DB10 are expected to feature

Audi Q2
Unlikely to bring any big surprises, Audi’s smallest crossover yet – though an even more bijou Q1 is also said to be on the way – slot in the range below the Q3, Q5 and Q7

Bugatti Chiron
The Vision Gran Turismo concept seen at last autumn’s Frankfurt motor show (above) gave a few hints to the replacement for the world’s fastest car, confirmed for its unveiling in Geneva

Borgward
Following last year’s launch of the BX7 crossover at the Frankfurt motor show, the reborn Borgward brand is set to show a new model in Geneva, although details surrounding whether it’s a production or concept car are scarce.

Citroën SpaceTourer, Peugeot Traveller and Toyota Proace
This utilitarian, van-based trio extends the PSA/Toyota co-development of certain models. Citroën is highlighting its version with a two-tone show car called Hyphen (above), which takes some of the colour and trim thinking from last year’s Aircross. Peugeot’s launch promoter is the Traveller i-Lab, described as a VIP shuttle for business travel, complete with a pivoting 32-inch touchscreen which can split into four individual tablets, virtual reality headsets and real-time 3D navigation

Ferrari GTC4Lusso
An update to the FF grand tourer with extensive exterior changes by Flavio Manzoni and his team

Fiat Tipo
A re-entry into the C-segment market with this low-cost pitch to take on the likes of Dacia

Ford
A quiet show for Ford, with the big debut being the facelifted version of the Kuga crossover

Honda Civic Hatchback Prototype
Liftback version of the new global Civic for the European market

Hyundai Ioniq
Offered in hybrid, PHEV and electric forms, this is Hyundai’s Prius rival

Italdesign Giugiaro
Details are currently under embargo, but this will be the first concept to be shown since the great man left his eponymous design firm

Kia Niro
Less overtly aerodynamic and tech-focussed than its Hyundai Ioniq sister model, this will be the Niro’s European debut, following its global unveil at the Chicago auto show

Lamborghini Centenario
Aventador-based limited edition will mark the hundredth anniversary of Ferruccio Lamborghini’s birth

SsangYong SIV-2 concept & Tivoli XLV
The Korean company – now part of India’s Mahindra group – is lining up a midsize concept called SIV-2, which previews an SUV to slot in its range above the compact Tivoli crossover around the size of the Nissan Qashqai. The second vehicle is production-ready: the Tivoli XLV (above), a longer version of the model already on sale. It gains 235mm to its rear behind its C-pillars, enlarging trunk-space to 720 litres, although its wheelbase remains the same at 2600mm

Subaru XV Concept
Previews a replacement for the Impreza-based, high-riding crossover

Toyota C-HR production car
Previewed by two C-HR concepts, Toyota’s small crossover, built on the same TNGA platform as the new Prius, arrives in Geneva

Volkswagen T-Cross concept
Third small crossover from the VW Group is expected to be a much-needed Polo-based rival for the likes of the Nissan Juke

Volvo V90
Wagon version of the much-acclaimed new S90 sedan with the same Scandinavian design roots, clam interior and, arguably, an even more attractive exterior
