Tokyo 2015: The material secrets of Suzuki’s Mighty Deck
Blonde wood and heathered cotton speak a calm, characterful language
Suzuki always pulls out the stops in Tokyo. Its concept cars have a quality – in their conception, execution and finish – that belies the brand’s size and the quality of some of its production models. We are taken with two of its models here – there’s the Air Triser van complete with shuffling seats and sharp graphics, but it’s the diminutive Mighty Deck that really charmed us.

From the extruded section details of its front and rear lamps, to its slightly grumpy animal-world facial expression, there’s a depth of character here that’s perhaps not quite apparent from afar.

The way the tailgate drops down, with a section surrounding the lamps splitting away is sweet too. But the spare and elegant interior design is where the Mighty Deck charms most. The blonde wood could have come from a Scandinavian brand, but the stand out details was the purple-blue heathered cotton used on the doors and IP.

If Suzuki can translate some of its concept car creativity to its production line up, it could take it Asian success onto the world stage.
