Car Design News takes a look at news that may have gone under the radar, including the latest from Italdesign, Toyota and Subaru
Italdesign collaborates with Indonesian government
Italdesign has assisted with the design of Indonesia’s first indigenous passenger vehicle – the i2C.
This electric car’s design includes references to Indonesia’s culture such as the Garuda (symbol of strength, wisdom and sovereignty) and patterns of batik (a traditional Indonesian textile).
The boxy exterior leads into an orderly interior that prioritises clean lines and functionality.
The i2C will initially be for government use, eventually paving the way for future commercial production.

Rolls-Royce reveals three Chinese mural art commissions
Inspired by the ancient mural paintings of Dunhuang, China, the Phantom Extended, Black Badge Cullinan and Black Badge Spectre act as the canvases for the three mural art commissions.
These vehicles possess new bespoke exterior colours that reflect local landscapes, art and cultural themes.
There is a particularly detailed hand-painted artwork piece inside the Phantom Extended: a landscape painting on black leather alongside a Silken Spirit motif embroidered in white and black thread which represents the movement of a flying apsaras.

Subaru confirms electric range of SUVs for Europe
Three new BEV models are set to hit the stage in Europe, expanding Subaru’s European presence.
The Subaru Uncharted is Subaru’s first electric SUV with a rugged exterior targeted at outdoor-loving explorers. Inside a squared steering wheel and 14-inch infotainment display greet the driver.
The Subaru E-Outback (also known as the Trailseeker in the US) is longer than the Solterra with a generous boot – big enough to fit four large suitcases.
Lastly, but not least, the Subaru Solterra has been refreshed with new hardware, software upgrades and styling changes. The front of the SUV has been redesigned to prioritise aerodynamics, and a 14-inch infotainment display has been added.
