Car Design round-up: Bentley Supersports, Cupra’s racing-inspired Leon and in-vehicle display advancements

Car Design News takes a look at news that may have gone under the radar, including the latest updates from Audi, Bentley, Cupra and Harman

Audi Formula 1 concept unveiled

The Audi R26 concept is a preview of the brand’s Formula 1 design identity, with geometric cuts and minimalistic graphic surfaces. The colour palette is simple and clean, centred on titanium, carbon black and the newly introduced Audi red. Audi’s iconic rings are also presented in red.

This visual identity is based on the recently introduced design principles: clear, technical, intelligent and emotional.

Audi’s chief creative officer Massimo Frascella said: “We are implementing a unifying design language that draws together every aspect of our organisation. This makes the Formula 1 project a pioneer for the new brand identity, which will be rolled out in the future both for the F1 team and Audi as a whole.”

Bentley Supersports revealed

As alluded to in last week’s round-up, Bentley has revived the ‘Super Sports’ nameplate exactly 100 years after its debut. The new Continental GT is the fourth Supersports model in the brand’s history – and notably, the lightest Bentley in 85 years.

Weighing in at less than 2,000kg, the model achieves its reduced weight primarily through a re-engineered powertrain (no turbos) and carbon-fibre roof.

There’s also a new lower front bumper with an integrated front splitter (the largest one fitted to a road-going Bentley), which provides cooling air to the engine and front brakes. New side sills run the length of the wheelbase, and a new rear diffuser is built into a new rear bumper construction.

Cupra Leon VZ TCR

Cupra’s latest front-wheel drive Leon pays tribute to the Leon VZ TCR race car, so it’s no surprise the vehicle delivers 325PS and 420Nm of torque.

Exterior design detailing includes a roof spoiler, front and rear splitter, side skirt and diffuser. Black carbon fibre side mirror covers and a dark chrome Cupra logo on the bonnet round out the car’s track-influenced aesthetic.

Harman Ready Display receives HDR10+ Automotive certification

Harman Ready Display

The automotive technology company’s Ready Display is the first to achieve the HDR10+ Automotive certification.

Developed by HDR10+ Technologies LLC, the certification recognises displays that reproduce HDR (high dynamic range) content across all lighting environments. To earn this certification, displays must pass a series of tests benchmarking brightness, contrast and colour accuracy tests under varying lighting conditions and viewing angles.
