Car Design News looks at news that may have gone under the radar, including the latest updates from Porsche, Hyundai, Toyota and Lexus
Porsche brings back historic fabrics
In response to imitation fabrics on the market, Porsche has reissued patterns such as Pepita, Pasha, tartan and pinstripe in a range of different colours for both historic and more modern sports car models.
These new editions were sourced through Porsche’s archive, and the company went one step further to source rare stock items for inspiration – such as an untouched 911 seat upholstered in green tartan from 1975 that never found its way into a Porsche.
These fabrics are available to order from Porsche Centres or via the Porsche Online Shop.

Hyundai unveils design of production ready AI robot
MobED (mobile eccentric droid) is Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB’s first mass-produced mobility robot platform. MobED uses AI-based autonomous navigation, LiDAR-camera fusion sensors and a posture control mechanism for movement.
This robot was first shown as a concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2022, but the production-ready version has now been showcased at the International Robot Exhibition 2025 in Tokyo, Japan.
The robot is designed for both industrial and everyday uses, and the design prioritises straight lines, with precise shaping and subtle surface reflections that draw attention to the robot’s motion.

Toyota GR GT and GR GT3
The GR GT is Toyota Gazoo Racing’s new flagship sports car, developed as a road-legal race car, and the GR GT3 is a new GR GT-based FIA GT3-spec race car engineered for customers.
Both models feature a low centre of gravity and low weight with high rigidity to improve aerodynamic performance.
Inside, visibility, driving position and intuitive control placement are prioritised, with displays and switches arranged for easy recognition in both daily use and on the circuit.

Lexus reveals Lexus LFA Concept
This BEV sports car was developed alongside Toyota’s latest GT programmes and built around the same aluminium architecture as the GR GT. The design is centred on achieving a low centre of gravity as well as expressing ‘sensual sculptural beauty’ inherited from the original Lexus LFA. The proportions reference a classic coupe, with Lexus wanting this concept to represent a new ideal form of sports car.
The interior layout is simple, much like the GR GT and GR GT3, with functional components concentrated close to the driver. The focus, again, has been put on achieving the ideal driving position.
