Design of new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class revealed
Mercedes-Benz’s new Maybach S-Class debuts a new operating system and a leather-free interior
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the Maybach edition of the S-Class, building upon the S-Class revealed in late January
It is the first Maybach to feature the AI-powered operation system – MB.OS – which includes the MBUX virtual assistant that utilises ChatGPT 4o, Microsoft Bing Search and Google Gemini.
The grille has been enlarged by 20%, in line with the previous S-Class design update, but the Maybach edition includes an illuminated Maybach wordmark within the grille frame – a first for the brand. The double star headlamps feature touches of rose gold and the Maybach pattern within the air intakes is rendered in chrome.
There are two wheel sizes – 20 or 21-inches – and both come with a Mercedes star in the centre that always remains upright, thanks to the ball-bearing mechanism.
Nautic blue metallic joins the Night Series exterior palette for the first time, which can then be combined with Obsidian Black or Mojave Silver in a two-tone paint finish.
The interior of the Maybach S-Class is drenched in a new colour – Beech Brown. For the first time Mercedes has gone leather-free, pairing Artico man-made leather with ‘Mirville’ mélange textile (a linen and recycled polyester blend that has a natural fibre look). These materials are enhanced with white piping and an open-quilted diamond-stitched graphic.
Ambient lighting plays a strong role with 199 LEDs, 10 colour worlds and 64 individually selectable colours including Amethyst Glow for a gentle atmosphere. Lighting can also be controlled via voice commands.
The fourth-generation MBUX Superscreen sits in the centre of the cockpit, combining a 14.4 and 12.2 inch central and passenger display beneath a single sheet of glass. Surrounding this is open-pore wood, including grained oak. The dials are coloured in rose-gold and a gold-coloured Maybach emblem rests between the two rings. Behind this is a textured backdrop in gold, rose gold and black.
The central console now has an enhanced phone cradle with integrated charging, framed by an open-pore oak or amber-brown wood trim in a herringbone pattern.
Classic Mercedes-Benz touches remain in the cabin, such as the refrigerated compartment with silver-plated Robbe & Berking champagne flutes.
