Design round-up: VW ID.3 GTI; LEVC’s new London black cab; GM’s fresh pickup truck interface

The electric GTI rings true to its role as the sporty flagship of the product line with the classic red stripe positioned directly above the LED light strip between the headlights. A new GTI feature has been introduced through the vertically integrated LED elements in the outer areas of the bumper. From the side view, new 20-inch alloy wheels, mirror caps and body coloured roof spoiler can be seen.

The interior follows the design of the ID.3 Neo but includes nods to the vehicle’s GTI status – including a fine red stripe extending across the width of the dash panel and a red 12 o’clock mark on the steering wheel. Tactility has been bought back with a button strip for the air conditioning functions, a rotary knob for volume control and a skip function for songs and stations.

LEVC confirms new London black cab for 2027

The next generation of black cab will hit the UK market in the second half of 2027, replacing the 2018 TX range-extended electric taxi.

Early design sketches show a subtle evolution of the classic silhouette, with the promise of new technology and usability functions.

LEVC global design director Brett Boydell commented: “Designing the next generation of iconic black cab is both an incredible responsibility and a unique opportunity. These first sketches capture the essence of what’s to come – familiar, purposeful and unmistakably LEVC – but with a fresh, modern character that reflects the future of mobility. There is much more to reveal, but this is the beginning of that journey.”

GM unveils new pickup truck interface for 2027

Debuting on the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, GM’s new user interface aims to improve upon graphics, layouts and intelligence within the cabin.

Following user feedback, displays are now high-contrast with a split-view home screen. This comes alongside mode-aware cluster layouts and a 3D-map driving visualisation.

Stellantis to unveil nine concepts at Paris Motor Show

These nine new concepts will span eight brands within the Stellantis portfolio.

Ralph Gilles, head of Stellantis Design, and Gilles Vidal, head of Design for Enlarged Europe, will also present the company’s “renewed design momentum”.
