Fabrizio and Giorgetto Giugiaro to develop Techrules GT96
Giorgetto Giugiaro is back in business, developing Techrules supercar with his son Fabrizio
Giorgetto Giugiaro is back in business after his resignation from Italdesign, now fully-owned by the Volkswagen Group. With his son Fabrizio, he has launched a new company, GFG Progetti (‘projects’), and they have signed an agreement to develop the design of the Techrules GT96, a supercar with a unique extended-range turbine-recharged electric powertrain. Low-volume production is planned for this car, which will be launched at the 2017 Geneva motor show.
Fabrizio Giugiaro has been leading Giugiaro Architettura, a company he founded with his father in 1995. Originally the architecture division of Italdesign Giugiaro, this became an independent firm in 2003, developing international architectural, city planning, interior design and boat design projects.
Beijing-based Techrules has also engaged engineering and production consultancy L.M. Gianetti, adding a further Italian flavour to the mix. Its facilities in Turin can produce 25 vehicles a year, and its recent work includes building a one-off Ferrari P4/5 Competizione race car for the Nürburgring 24 Hours, in addition to a long history of car-building for Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Abarth.
