Honda unveils new logo
The new ‘H’ mark was designed in conjunction with the development of the brand’s latest electric vehicles
Honda has unveiled a redesigned ‘H’ logo, marking its first major update since 1981.
The new ‘H’ marks will appear on Honda’s next generation of EVs and hybrid-electric models from 2027 onwards – including the Honda 0 Series. It will also feature across the company’s automobile motorsports activities, dealership locations and communication initiatives.
The refreshed logo consists of two vertical uprights connected by a smooth, U-shaped cross member. There is a distinct lack of sharp corners, instead corners are softly tapered. The uprights flare outward at the top while the inner edges form a deep U-shape, almost making the ‘H’ feel load bearing. There is also no longer an encompassing circle around the ‘H’, allowing the symbol to exist as a freestanding form rather than a contained badge.
In fact, the new winged ‘H’ bears heavy resemblance to Honda’s original 1961 logo, perhaps leaning into the brand’s take on retrofuturism as seen through the Honda 0 series.
Honda states: “The new design expression, like two outstretched hands, represents the commitment of Honda to augment the possibilities of mobility and sincerely serve the needs of the customers of Honda automobile business.”
The new H mark will represent Honda’s “second founding” the statement continues, reflecting a renewed focucs on “cutting-edge technology and ideas without being bound by conventional ideas, practices and ways of doing things.”
Honda’s ‘H’ has now undergone four redesigns since the 1961 original. The first refresh came in 1969, when the mark became taller and more rectangular in its stance. A further evolution followed in 1981, with the ‘H’ becoming thinner in letter width and slightly wider in stance, gaining a surrounding ring and reintroducing the Honda wordmark beneath the emblem. In 2000, the logo was subtly refined again through the addition of a 3D chrome finish, while the accompanying type was rendered in red.
