Hyundai provides a look inside its Ioniq 5
Images of the Ioniq 5 interior show some design details of Hyundai’s new model before its launch
Hyundai has decided to release two interior images and some accompanying details of the Ioniq 5 ahead of its virtual world premiere on 23 February 2021.
The top-down images show a glowing screen that seems to cover a large section of the dash. It is rectangular and straight, with no visible curves. There are also some haptic buttons placed underneath for climate control and other functions. It all points to a minimalist and modern feel.
The colour scheme is neutral, comprising of whites, greys and blacks. Some detailed stitching adorns the seats, while the centre console is void of any features aside from two cupholders and a storage compartment. The images suggest that the central console can also slide back, creating more space for the front passengers.
Hyundai says that the interior will feature “eco-friendly materials and textiles” such as leather that has been dyed and treated with plant oil extractions from flaxseed, avoiding the use of chemicals. Some of the materials will also include recycled plastic bottles, while others will be coated in a paint made from rape flowers and corn.
The interior images follow on from three exterior renderings that Hyundai previously published. These show a distinctive boxy design that includes a “parametric pixel” light signature, a large V-shaped ‘grille’ area, and some edgy body work.
The Ioniq 5 will be the first model to use Hyundai’s ‘Electric-Global Modular Platform’ (E-GMP). It will first be launched as a special edition, titled “Project 45”.
