Marking the 50th anniversary of the iconic Renault 5, renowned French designer Pierre Gonalons has worked with the automaker to create a one-off art deco show car. Better known for his work on interiors, furniture and decorative living accessories, Gonalons has transformed the utilitarian hatchback into a high-end work of art.

Resplendent in a matte pink finish and bejeweled with all manner of high-end materials – brass, mohair wool and even a corkscrew-effect marble steering wheel – it is a fitting tribute as the hatchback nears its all-electric relaunch around 2024.

It is not the first time Renault has teamed up with a designer from outside the automotive industry. In 2021, the Renault 4 was worked over by architect and designer Mathieu Lehanneur to produce the ‘SUITE N°4’, which reimagines the cabin as a new living space.
