Exclusive images shared with Car Design News detail the development of Zeekr's mega new SUV

Zeekr has only been around a few years but has produced an impressive mix of models in a very short space of time. The latest is the Zeekr 9X, a full-size plug-in hybrid SUV, which launched officially in China in September. We are told that, like some of Zeekr's other models, there is a good chance it will land on European shores in time.

The six-seater touts a powerful "Super Hybrid" system based on a 2.0T powertrain, enabling a staggering dash to 60mph in just over three seconds. The 900V architecture will support ultra-fast charging; from our experience with 800V, this should be might fast indeed. Targeting luxury buyers, the interior features 'Cloud Lounge' seats and a high-end Naim audio system.

The upright face of the car is accented by more than 42,000 laser-engraved, diamond-cut lamp facets, which aims to create "a captivating starry sky effect." From side profile, a small rear boot spoiler and miniscule front overhang lengthens the car and almost give the appearance of a stocky grand tourer.

The 9X was revealed earlier this year at the Shanghai motor show. Designed in Gothenburg and built in China, head of interior design Sergio Louriero da Silva describes it as "the pinnacle of what a true Sino-European collaboration can achieve."

Zeekr is one of many Chinese brands making a splash in Europe, and the strategy of its parent company Geely cannot be overlooked in making that happen. Geely's group design boss Stefan Sielaff has noted how "Chinese companies are now delivering products at a top level in just two years while the Europeans are still discussing reducing development time from five to four years. This is the big difference."
