Polestar exterior design lead examines 2024 model

The Polestar 5 is set for launch in 2024, and will be based on the Precept concept car

In the third and latest of a series of short films titled “From Concept to Car”, Nahum Escobedo, exterior design manager at Polestar, provides a close look at a 4-door electric performance car that is set to be launched in 2024. It is based on the Precept concept car that was first shown in April 2020.

”The lowest and furthest part of the nose is kind of like a bone structure, like a shark nose,” he says. “But the rear end is what I’m most proud of. We have this really nice aeroblade light, something that I have never seen before. The Precept is very close, from the initial ideas and sketching to the concept, and now from the concept to the production.”

The film takes us inside the Polestar design studio in Stockholm, where we see clay modellers at work and a short clip of a design review led by chief designer Maximilian Missoni. Escobedo also describes his personal approach to design.

”At the beginning of the process I don’t look at cars at all, because if you do that you are locking yourself into a corner. My inspiration comes from products, like a radio or camera. I look at architecture and aeroplanes, which are a big inspiration.”

The two other films in the series are full of insight from Polestar’s colour and material team, interior designers, clay modellers and Missoni himself. They can be viewed on demand via the Polestar YouTube channel.

“With the Precept documentary series we are intentionally doing something car companies usually don’t – going behind the scenes with transparency as we turn this stunning concept car into production reality,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “It makes me very proud to see how much of the concept car’s design is making it into the Polestar 5 – a great achievement by our designers and engineers alike.”
