Renault targets India with Kiger SUV

Renault turns to Indian market with the unveiling of its Kiger show car

Published Modified

Renault has unveiled the Kiger show car – a new SUV that has been designed specifically for the Indian market. The company hopes to capture more of the B-segment when it launches the production version of the Kiger.

The front of the Kiger is characterised by the light strip that spans the width of the car, interupted only by the large Renault logo in the centre. Above is the sculpted bonnet, with two risen lines pushing outer to inner and two indentations, resulting in a strong relationship between the bonnet and A-pillars that provides a flowing shape to the front. The large circular daytime running lamps, three on either side, and chunky bumper make up the lower section.

A sweeping roof and chunky wheel arches create a sleek side profile, with the latter hinting at the car’s off-road capability. The body work is curved, tucked in across the lower part of the two doors and pushing high at the back to finish half way up the rear windows.

The high body work at the back creates a strange effect at the rear of the car, as if the back window has been accidentally squished. It does, however, leave plenty of space for the big ‘C’ shape tail lights that Renault is trumpeting as its signature. There is also a huge rear bumper, adding again to that chunky feel.

No images of the interior have been released yet, but as the Kiger is directed at the Indian market, expect hard-wearing materials built to last, as well as a decent sized touchscreen or two.

The unveiling of the Renault Kiger comes soon after Nissan took the wraps of its Magnite SUV – also designed specifically for the Indian market.
