Polestar’s O2 Roadster – the precursor to the forthcoming Polestar 6 production car – was named Concept of the Year in the latest edition of CDN’s Car Design Review coffee table book. Now in its ninth issue, the publication highlights the best production and concept cars, as judged by some of the industry’s most renowned designers.
CDN correspondent Laura Burstein visited Polestar’s brand new design studio in Gothenburg, Sweden (we’ll have the full story coming soon), where the brand’s head of design Maximilian Missoni chatted about the award and acknowledged, “What makes the award special is that it is judged by peers in the industry. We respect each other a lot, and it is a great feeling to not only be recognised yourself, but also to recognise your peers.”
Anthony Lo, Chief Design Officer for Ford Motor Company, said in his judge’s comments, “The O2 showcases the best of Scandinavian design.” Hyundai’s SangYup Lee noted that the O2 has “great execution in every dimension,” while Tata’s Martin Uhlarik said “the superb design execution underlines the Polestar ethos.”
Watch the video above to hear Missoni’s thoughts on the car and what to expect from Polestar design moving forward.
The O2 concept shared the spotlight with a co-winner, the Hyundai N Vision 74 – see our interview with Simon Loasby here.
