Shanghai 2019: Ken Okuyama teases the Aiways stand

A sketch of what to expect

Published Modified

In February, word had reached us that Ken Okuyama was working with the Chinese brand Aiways. We made an appointment with Okuyama at the Geneva Show and walked around the Aiways stand there.

As we walked around, we spoke of his work with Aiways. He pointed us to their flagship the U5 electric SUV (below). When Okuyama’s services were retained, the car was well into design development and he assisted the design team in polishing the final design. He will be more involved in future cars, but he will also be involved in the design of lifestyle objects and furniture to create an Aiways lifestyle brand.

Part of this endeavor is the design of the Aiways stand at the Shanghai show. Okuyama generously provided us the teaser sketch (sorry, drawing notes deleted at Aiways’ request), atop this article, showing a large stand organised around a crossroads, with Aiways vehicles on display, as well as a café and children’s play area. Numerous electronic screens and interactive displays will be available, while in contrast, clusters of greenery serve to separate functional areas and soften the effect of all that mechanical and electronic wizardry on display.

The CDN team will be stopping by Aiways for a closer look, and we will have a report from the floor.
