Chris Lefteri joins Alcantara
Materials specialist Chris Lefteri has formally joined Alcantara in a newly created role
Alcantara has appointed renowned CMF expert Chris Lefteri, who also runs a studio in his own name, as a design ambassador and advocate.
It is a rather curious title that leaves room for interpretation, but the British designer said in a statement today that the aim is to "redefine what Alcantara can be."
In part, this will be achieved by "expanding its expressive, technical, and cultural relevance through design-led exploration," he elaborates. "[And] by combining my materials-led design philosophy with Alcantara’s material mastery and its premium Italian heritage, this partnership seeks to unlock new narratives, applications, and sensory experiences that inspire designers, brands, and industries worldwide."
The appointment is presented both as a hire and a 'collaboration', and Alcantara implies that Lefteri will indeed advocate for the brand on a global stage, "increasing its dialogue with the international design community through leadership initiatives," the supplier says, "contributing to discussions and panels that explore the evolving role of materials in contemporary design."
Since 2006 Lefteri has operated his own independent design studio, Chris Lefteri Design, which will continue to run its own projects and it does not seem that the studio at large is involved in the agreement.
