Kia signals importance of CMF by creating a new role for Marília Biill

Marília Biill has been promoted to vice president of CMF design at Kia, becoming the first person to hold the newly created role.

Biill joined Kia in April 2021 as head of CMF design and was promoted to director, head of CMF design in January 2025.

Speaking to CDN, Biill said: “This step reflects both the work we’ve achieved and our leaders’ forward-thinking mindset, which clearly recognises the value and impact of our field.

This role gives us the opportunity to push innovation further while supporting Kia’s ambition to become a sustainable mobility solutions provider.”

Discussing her priorities in the new role, Biill explained: “By exploring biomimicry, translating research into bio-based materials, improving recyclability, and working toward full circularity, we aim to create experiences that resonate emotionally and responsibly with people.”

She also highlighted the importance of design within the organisation: “Kia has a long-standing commitment to design, which can be seen in the role it plays within the organisation and its products. This is a powerful source of motivation for us, not only from a personal achievement perspective, but also because of the high level of innovation this environment fosters.”

Marília has worked on projects including the Kia EV3 and EV4 concepts. For the EV4, she utilised hemp fibres that are both sustainable and mouldable inside the EV4 concept’s cabin. For the EV3, she selected Mycelium – derived from mushroom roots –for the console table, creating a soft surface.

Prior to joining Kia, she held CMF roles at Nio, Porsche and Volkswagen.
