Seat appoints Jorge Díez as design director
Former head of exterior design at SEAT Jorge Díez returns to the company as design director, following stints at Audi and Mitsubishi
Jorge Díez, the designer who created Seat’s first SUV, the Ateca, makes a return to the company as design director for both the Seat and Cupra marques following just over a year as vice president of Mitsubishi Motors design europe.
Díez led Seat’s exterior design department from 2011-14, during which time he oversaw the third-generation Leon, the fourth-generation Ibiza and the aforementioned Ateca. Diez left the Barcelona brand to join Audi, designing the second generation TT and the first-generation A7, before joining Mitsubishi.

“Jorge Díez is one of the most talented designers in the automotive industry. His signature is on many of our key cars from the last decade, such as the Leon, the Ateca and the Ibiza, and it’s great news that he’s returning to Seat. His international experience, the inspiration from Barcelona and the values of the Seat and Cupra brands will be reflected in the models we will be launching in the coming years,” says Seat president Wayne Griffiths.
Díez will start his new position on 1 December 2020 and report to the company’s executive vice-president for research and development, Dr. Werner Tietz.
