BMW’s head of interior design becomes president of the Designworks consultancy

Oliver Heilmer has taken over the top job of president at BMW’s California-based Designworks subsidiary, a cross-sector creative consultancy. In his new role, effective from 1 August 2016, he is responsible for Designworks’ strategy, overseeing its studios in North America, Europe and Asia, and managing all its design teams.

Heilmer worked on BMW Automobile’s interior design team from 2000, heading it up from September 2013. At Designworks, he takes over from Laurenz Schaffer, who is moving to a management role at BMW Group Design.

Designworks, established in 1972, currently employs around 130 people from 25 countries at its studios in Newbury Park, Munich and Shanghai.
