Who’s Where: Wulin Gaowa joins BAIC subsidiary Arcfox

Believed to be China’s highest-ranking female designer, the former GM China advanced design director takes on a new role at BAIC’s EV brand

Wulin Gaowa, thought to be the highest-ranking female auto designer in China, has joined BAIC subsidiary BJEV (Beijing Electric Vehicle Co. Ltd.) as advanced design director for its new Arcfox brand.

Wulin, formerly advanced design director at GM China and CEO/design director at Eno Design, has also worked at companies including ItalDesign Giugiaro and DaimlerChrysler. She was the first female designer to head up a GM studio when she was appointed to her newly-created role in September 2011. At BAIC BJEV, she will work with Bing Chang, deputy design director, BAIC BJEV design centre.

Arcfox has been created by BAIC as an all-electric vehicle brand intended to target younger buyers. It displayed two concepts at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year: the Arcfox-7, a high-performance sports car, and the Arcfox-1, a convertible mini-SUV. The brand is to formally launch in China this week, and the Arcfox Space experience centre opens in downtown Beijing on 5 August.
