Designing interiors with a human-centric approach

Car Design News talks to Dustin Boutet at EPAM Continuum about vehicle interiors and the user experience

The inside of the car has never looked so swanky. As interiors evolve, there are a few key trends making a significant difference.

Complexity is making way for minimalism. Button clusters are being ditched for touchscreens, and the real-estate for these screens continues to grow as OEMs attempt to one-up each other, daring to put increasingly larger screens on the dash.

In extreme examples, all functions must be accessed through the touchscreen, such as in Tesla’s portfolio. The electric carmaker has long been a champion of minimal interiors with no buttons or haptic controllers. But how user-friendly is this approach?

In this podcast, Dustin Boutet, travel & hospitality lead at EPAM Continuum, describes the challenges facing interior vehicle designers. He emphasises the need to observe consumer behaviour, and the way in which they interact with systems within the vehicle.
