Detroit 2016: Nissan Titan XD suits its Warrior warpaint

The Nissan Titan XD’s Raptor-style makeover helps balance out the standard truck

Published Modified

The Titan XD’s Cummins diesel engine is both its USP and a cause of a design headache. It requires plenty of cooling and thus dictates that the truck’s front overhang had to swell to accommodate the intercoolers, giving it slightly awkward proportions.

However, with the Raptor-apeing Warrior concept, the Nissan Design America team has taken the chance to right those wrongs. The concept is same length as the standard model, but adds inflated arches that increase the truck’s width by six inches to balance out its nose. The overhaul also includes a three-inch rise to the body, helped by some overtly rugged 37-inch off-road tyres and new suspension.

Also of note are the new lamps, which incorporate a geometric block theme to the DRLs that reference those of other Nissan models. The lamps also include a small LED Titan logo, while the regular beam LEDs are encased in metal claws that look similar to the new exhaust finisher.

Add in new spoilers on the cab and tailgate, underbody protectors and some rooftop LED lights and you’re ready for a high-speed run where the roads have run out.
