"We use our rich history of luxury" says Cadillac's Erin Crossley

Cadillac designer Erin Crossley speaks to Car Design News from CDD Detroit

The definition of luxury is "very diverse" says Crossley. "You have your old luxury, your new luxury, and I'd like to think we play in both spaces. Cadillac has the benefit of being a bold and iconic presence, but also being able to leverage the latest technology and innovation.

Crossley speaks with authority here, having led the design of the Cadillac Celestiq which is very much in the 'new luxury' bracket, we would say. The term itself can be seen as a compliment, Crossley suggests, and reflects a broader interest in craftsmanship and quality.

"Being considered luxury is very desirable for brands," she says. "There is a lot of focus on it today and the next new and exciting things seem to be equated with luxury. Whether that's about having things which feel sought after, I'm not sure, but it really pulls a lot of things into the idea of luxury which makes it so fascinating. There are so many different approaches."

Crossley spoke more broadly on the idea of American Luxury as part of a panel at Car Design Dialogues 2025. A link to that session is directly below.
