GAC reveals Aion Hyper GT interior

GAC’s electric sub-brand Aion has revealed the interior of its Hyper GT grand tourer, which has clearly been designed with serenity in mind

Following its official reveal late last year at the Guangzhou auto show, GAC has released new shots of the Aion Hyper GT, showcasing a refined interior that centres around “organic modernism” design language. This is in contrast to the exterior’s “liquid metal” design and channels natural forms and bright open space throughout.

The user experience is designed around the idea of man-machine symbiosis where technology is intuitive, usable and pleasing on the eye (that should be true for any interior, of course.) But with rapidly evolving technologies, the team at GAC felt there needed to be a distinct focus on the relationship between car and driver. “It is not a tool space, but a mobile living space, so we should pay attention to its comfort, humanistic atmosphere, and beauty,” says Fan Zhang, Vice President of the GAC R&D Center.

There are three key pillars to the design: Design Style, Space Scenario and Material Craft. Design Style is partly inspired by architecture and product design, with a reductionist approach to the space. ”All complicated redundancies were removed from the inner space, revealing a unique sci-fi sense of light and luxury in simplicity,” the carmaker says. It is clean and uncluttered, yet each surface is designed with intent.

The Space Scenario aspect is characterised by a floating IP that provides width to the cockpit and extends far beyond the steering wheel, not to mention a ‘Queen’s Throne’ for the front passenger seat. This is created by using a thinner HVAC system and the removal of a traditional glovebox area – opening up room for legs and knees to stretch out. Elsewhere, the so-called “bar counter” design on the armrest is inspired by organic forms such as the Eames chair. Unlike the iconic 1956 armchair, the bar counter offers 50W wireless fast charging for mobile devices.

With Material Craft, the CMF team adopted sustainable materials where possible. Eco-friendly genuine Nappa leather is used for the seats; most wood finishes are cultivated and grown exclusively on a forest farm, while the wood used in the central control armrest is sourced from the Amazon Rainforest. There are three interior colour schemes – white silver, dark gray, and bright yellow. GAC describes the cockpit as refreshing and bright, and it is hard to disagree.
