Skoda unveils sketches of Slavia saloon
The new Skoda Slavia has been designed for the Indian market, and is the second model from the Czech carmaker to be developed under a market offensive
Skoda has published two exterior sketches of the new Slavia – a saloon that has been designed specifically for the Indian market.
The images show a long body punctuated by many sharp edges and clean lines. The side of the car show character, shoulder and belt lines, all clearly visible and running uninterrupted to link the front end with the rear. A long bonnet with several grooves and a wide hexagonal grille feature at the front, along with angular headlamps and air intakes.
At the rear, the roof falls to meet the boot lid, which rises from the rear lights to become aligned with the belt line. The C-shaped light design at the back is divided into two parts, with the small centre strip pushing into the lid. A slender chrome strip is housed inside the bottom bumper area, as are two reflectors that emphasise the width.
Although interior images are yet to be shown, the exterior sketches show a clean and concise design – very Skoda. The model will be made on Volkswagen’s MQB A0-IN platform, which was created to ensure the company’s new models can meet India’s newly implemented stricter safety and emissions specifications.
The Slavia is the second model set for release under Skoda’s “India 2.0” project, following on from the Kushaq SUV. Announced back in 2018, the project included an investment of €1 billion (£85m), a goal of obtaining a 5% market share, and the creation of a new Technology Centre in Pune – in which the Slavia was developed.
