Alexandre Malval has been appointed vice president of design for the Renault brand, taking up his role on 2nd January.
Malval will also join the Renault brand management committee as part of his new role.
This news comes after the departure of Gilles Vidal as vice president of design at the Renault group, who held this position from November 2020 to October 2025.
Chief design officer Laurens van den Acker said: ““We are very happy to welcome Alexandre Malval to our Design team. His experience with major automotive groups, his international outlook, and his ability to create strong design-led brands will be essential assets to push Renault to the next level. The future of mobility is exciting and I'm looking forward to working with Alexandre to make our dreams come true.”
Malval studied vehicle design at the Royal College of Art. He then began his career at Renault in 1994 in the Advanced Design department as an exterior designer before joining Volkswagen Group’s Design Centre Europe in Barcelona in 1996 working across the Audi and Volkswagen brands.
In 2001 Malval joined the Citroën Creation Centre in Paris, then he moved to Peugeot’s equivalent before becoming head of Citroën design in 2012.
His most recent position, since October 2018, was as CEO and design director of the Mercedes-Benz International Design Centre Europe in Sophia Antipolis, France. Here, he worked on the advanced design and development of production vehicles for Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Smart and AMG.
Renault brand CEO and chief growth officer at Renault Group Fabrice Cambolive added: “The arrival of Alexandre Malval marks a new milestone in our ambition: to design “voitures à vivre” that fully embody Renault’s strategic vision, combining emotion, innovation, and an exceptional customer experience. His international experience and innovative mindset will be key assets in driving Renault’s growth in Europe and on the global stage.”
