Rolls-Royce has appointed Anders Warming as the new director of design. He officially starts on 1 July, though he is no stranger to the company.

Warming has spent nearly 20 years at BMW Group, taking various roles including head of design at Mini and chief exterior designer at BMW, and also working under Chris Bangle at one stage. He also created his own design consultancy titled Warming Design.

Warming said: ”I am so incredibly honoured to have been asked by Mr. Adrian van Hooydonk, senior vice president, BMW Group Design and Mr. Torsten Müller-Ötvös, chief executive, Rolls-Royce Motorcars, to join the team creating the future direction of this unparalleled prestigious brand – venturing into the creative future of the synergies of electrification and pinnacle luxury. Equally this role is an integral part of the BMW Group Design Team, which will allow me to re-join the amazing design team, I have truly missed for quite some time now, and who I am incredible excited to be returning home to!”

Müller-Ötvös also released a statement on the Rolls-Royce website, suggesting that Warming would be a key asset in helping the company move forward in its plans for electrification while simultaneously “upholding the fundamental design principles” that are central to the brand.

Rolls-Royce has lacked a design director since Jozef Kabaň left in October 2019 after a short stint at the company ended abruptly.

Warming will likely work closely with Alex Innes, head of coachbuild at Rolls-Royce, who we recently interviewed in a CDN podcast.
