Color & Material Designer

Join our Color and Material Design team to set the vision for the development and direction of interior, exterior, color and material designs for Ford and Lincoln Programs. We are seeking designers that thrive in a fast-paced environment to deliver impactful designs, designers that create innovative designs that impact human centric thinking, have a strong design leadership, and positive critical thinking skills.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and guide color and materials designs through digital presentations and renderings for concept and production vehicles. 
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to drive successful global relationships with both internal, external partners and suppliers. 
  • Work with other color & material designers to strategize in the development of textiles, forecast trends, and research. 
  • Create and validate color, texture, gloss, and finish, as necessary. 
  • Support all program timing, ensuring program and project deliverables are met within the program targets. 
  • Create color palettes that align the Ford and Lincoln brands and target market audiences. 
  • Participate in design reviews, meetings, and effectively present color and material designs to key stakeholders. 
  • Conduct research on current trends, sustainable materials, colors and finishes and present findings to internal and cross functional teams. 
  • Work with mastering and engineering functional teams to assess materials and ensure colors and materials meet performace expectaions. 

What you’ll have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, fine arts, fashion textiles, or related field. 
  • 2+ years of experience in automotive/industrial/mobility color and material design or development including work in product design or textile design (internship and/or co-op experience allowed) 
  • A portfolio submission in addition to a resume in required. Portfolio needs to exhibit color and material designs to be considered. 

Even better if: 

  • Expertise and knowledge of 3D prototyping, property builds, etc.
  • Working level knowledge of fabrics and trims associated with the development process.
  • Ability to effectively communicate designs and strategy direction with cross functional teams.
  • Must be self-motivated, adaptable, flexible, and able to multi-task. 
  • Strong, demostrated understanding or color theory (hue, value, chroma, etc). 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite tools (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, VRED) and Microsoft Suite tools (i.e, PowerPoint, Excel).

Senior Exterior Lightings Designer

  • Create compelling and innovative lighting design experiences and visions for design projects.
  • Create human centered design experience with emphasis in exterior design holistic experience. 
  • Coordinate the work of other design personnel to achieve holistic deisgn visions. 
  • Create futured lighting design visions, focused on the building our brand. 
  • Span digital and physical (software and hardware) thinking. 
  • Solve problems around topics or connectivity, mobility, and consumer segments. 

 What you’ll have:

  • A portfolio demonstrating experience in exterior and/or interior lighting design. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, transportation design, or similar. 
  • 4+ years’ automotive or transportation design experience; including experience specific to lighting conceptual design and final product execution. 
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically, and analytically. 
  • Ability to work independently and provide strong technical aesthetic judgment to lead team members. 
  • Awareness of global automotive lighting technology and trends to ensure Ford competes with the ability to lead.

  • Collaborate with engineering, suppliers and other partners to progress the design development.
  • Exceptional design intuition, strong problem-solving skills, and a superior ability to visually communicate through sketches, and rendering.
  • 4+ years of experience translating 2D to 3D and think three-dimensionally with a strong emphasis on proportions and a refined sense of form also required.
  • Familiarizes self and maintains interest with design trends within and across design professions and global cultures (automotive, fashion, architectural, etc.)
  • Outstanding teamwork, leadership, visual, written, and verbal communication skills.

Senior Interior/Components Designer

Ford Motor Company is looking for a highly creative/strategic Senior Interior Designer for our design studios in Dearborn. Working on Advanced & Production Interior projects, the successful candidate will have to develop both conceptual and production based on Interior solutions in the form of sketch, rendering and 3D digital models.
