Although we have neither the space nor the spare cash at CDN HQ, we’d love it if the lobby could be graced by a significant concept car. We could do worse than the Maserati Boomerang too, which will go up for auction once again at Bonham’s Chantilly Sale on 5 September.

The Boomerang was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Based on the chassis of a Maserati Bora, it was shown as a non-functional model at the 1971 Turin Motor Show. However, by the Geneva show the following year, it had been fitted with a 310hp 4.7-litre V8, and was later registered for the road.

It’s not the first time the Boomerang has hit the auction block. It sold for $644,692 back in February 2002, and given the fact that the classic-car market has gone crazy of late, driven by limited supply, we wonder if old concepts – particularly as significant as this one – will show similarly inflated values.
