Central to this is the new compact 'front-midship' platform which underpins the entire concept and dictates the car's particularly distinct proportions of long hood and short front overhang which in turn are emphasised by the slightly sixties coupe theme of upright windscreen, tall glasshouse, static beltline and low tail. At 4.3 meters long, 1.7meters wide and 1.37 meters tall the car is similar to the BMW 1 Series in size as well as powertrain configuration, but the overall effect of classic coupe theme and reserved elegance combined with the new platform-driven proportions create a unique and appealing proposition.
The Nissan Foria has an unusual context, but is a refreshingly simple and innovative design. It authentically references a little known predecessor from four decades ago, by a German designer, although many will suppose its design cues are founded in a classic Lancia. It was designed by a Japanese and English team based on a platform that dictates proportions shared only with a BMW. It is a modern and forward-looking Japanese coupe with explicit classic Italian coupe design cues. It has strength and solidity, and yet also elegance and delicacy. In parts it emulates, but in its whole it innovates. The Foria's like has not been seen before.
