The challenges facing automotive design departments are increasing as the consumer market changes - and sustainability dominates debate. The CDN Tokyo Forum 2019 assembles design thought leaders to debate new mobility design

Car Design News is once more teaming up with the world’s leading automotive designers to tackle the issues facing global mobility design – this time in Tokyo – the day before the first press day of the bi-annual Tokyo motor show.

Car Design News first presented this event in 2015, with the support and partnership of JAMA (Japanese Automotive Manufacturers Association). At the 2017 Forum, the newly appointed SVP of design at Nissan, Alfonso Albaisa, revealed the remarkable creative journey that his design department was embarking upon to rediscover and re-invent ‘Japanese’ design. He led his global team on a research project which has resulted in the new wave of stunning concepts from the carmaker, underpinned by thoughtful creativity. Aston Martin’s Marek Reichman addressed the question of how to design ‘luxury’ and what implications that has in the changing automotive landscape.

This year, headline speakers include Nissan’s Satoru Tai, Byton’s Benoit Jacob, Honda’s Makoto Iwaki, Renault’s Anthony Lo, SAIC’s Shao Jinfeng, Daimler’s Benoit Tallec, Volvo CE’s Gustavo Guerra and more. This experienced group of design leaders will, guided by presenter Shiro Nakamura, present and debate the new emotional design language of electric vehicles, the digital transformation of design processes and the increasing importance of the interior design of new mobility solutions.

Car Design News will cover the hot topics of Car Design Forum Tokyo as part of our build up to coverage of the 2019 Tokyo motor show.
