Car Design News takes a look at the news that may have gone under the radar this week, including the latest from Porsche, Aston Martin and Ferrari

Aston Martin DBX S

Designers at Aston Martin have added a sharper and lighter stablemate to the DBX707 in the form of the new DBX S – the ‘supercar’ of SUVs.

It features a reprofiled polycarbonate honeycomb front grille, wraparound DRLs and aerodynamic side sills.

Inside, a herringbone motif on the Alcantara-trimmed seats adds visual velocity with a carbon roof and matching headliner optional. Subtle ‘S’ badging – red enamelled and chrome-trimmed – recalls past performance models like the V12 Vantage S.

Magnesium wheels, a first for production SUVs, save 19kg of unsprung mass, while the deletion of roof rails and carbon exterior elements trim even more weight.

Let’s go surfing

Bentley has traded tarmac for the tide with the release of a surfboard made in collaboration with Otter Surfboards and Marine Rays.

Made from Koa Veneer, sourced from the same woodshop in Crewe that crafts the interiors of grand tourers, the board was designed to embody the ‘spirit of adventure’.

The logos of all three collaborators are etched on the board, which will be auctioned for Surfability UK.
